Joe Funkhouser (Charles Town) – Republican Candidate for Delegate – 98th District

I offer my candidacy to Jefferson County for the House of Delegates to be the 98th District’s effective voice in Charleston, to champion common-sense Jeffersonian and West Virginia values, rooted in faith and family, as well as transparency, accountability, and integrity in every facet of government.

West Virginia’s and Jefferson County’s greatest assets are its people, unique geography, and history. Jefferson County and the Eastern Panhandle have many distinctive issues, like many other regions of the state, and I pledge to zealously advocate for Jefferson County, to meet with all interested citizens of the 98th District to hear their concerns and recommendations, as well as work with all members of the Legislature to seek consensus to utilize all tools to improve our policies, rules and laws to live up to the values enshrined in our Constitution.

I have spent most of my adult life as an advocate of Jefferson County farming, especially our thoroughbred breeding and racing industries – a critical part of our county’s economy and agricultural heritage.

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to stay in my home county and state, after commuting for many years. We lose too many of our young people to other states where there are more opportunities. Improving economic development policies for all sizes of businesses is vital for West Virginia’s prosperity.

I have the experience and credibility to work with my future colleagues as your effective representative. I support:

- Keeping more of our tax dollars in Jefferson County;
- Being part of positive solutions to make West Virginia a leader in free-market and conservative policies;
- Promoting family values and defending life;
- Protecting our 2nd amendment rights and Bill of Rights to safeguard individual liberties;
- Increasing funding for our traditional and charter public schools and growing the HOPE Scholarship; and
- Lowering taxes.

Please contact me to discuss issues important to you. I do not have all the answers, but pledge to listen to your concerns and work towards solutions to the best of my abilities.
